Ericsson MX8400 System Multiplexer

The Ericsson MX8400 System Multiplexer, part of the iSIS 8000® solution meets the needs of IP distribution infrastructures with robustness suitable for mission critcial applications

Product Description

A wide choice of cost-effective designs together with integration of any new technology is strived for by all broadcasters and operators. The introduction of IP interconnectivity offers a means to reduce infrastructure costs, increase flexibility and offer a choice of system architectures.

The MX8400, as part of iSIS 8000® systems, revolutionizes IP multiplexing technology. Providing up to eight independent multiplexed transport streams from a single enclosure and with built-in support for DVB Common Scrambling Algorithm for content protection, MX8400 facilitates numerous system architectures.

Suitable for a wide range of multiplexing and remultiplexing applications, its designed to offer system level redundancy and ease of operations. MX8400 is a feature rich product that also supports ASI input and output, SFN Adaptation, SMPTE 2022 Pro-MPEG FEC and Reflex™ Statistical Multiplexing. Fully integrated with Ericsson’s nCompass Control, the MX8400 takes full advantage of the IP technology to provide a cost-effective, highly reliable and flexible solution.

Benefits

- Offers a fully redundant architecture in combination with nCompass Control that enables implementation of cost-effective and resilient system architectures

- Reduces CAPEX with the ability to support up to eight independent multiplexed out transport streams; start with a limited number of multiplexes and add more as needed thus reducing upfront infrastructure costs

- Provides maximum utilization of available bit-rate through

Reflex™ Statistical Multiplexing; supports MPEG-2 SD and HD, MPEG-4 AVC SD and HD - Built-in DVB CA scrambling within the product allows content protection when needed Reflex™ and Remote Reflex Statistical Multiplexing by Ericsson Efficient use of available bandwidth without sacrificing picture quality is a prime concern for any broadcaster or operator. It is a given that when encoding complex scenes more bit-rate is needed than with simple scenes. A statistical multiplexing system takes advantage of the variable bit-rate nature of video compression and the statistical probability that not all channels will peak in bit-rate demand at the exact same time. Grouping encoders together and allowing them to share an aggregate pool of bit-rate enables the headend system to provide a better picture quality than constant bit-rate operation, or to maintain constant quality while adding more channels into the multiplex.

For over a decade, Ericsson has widely deployed statistical multiplexing systems with leading customers worldwide, creating room for more channels without sacrificing image quality.

Reflex Statistical Multiplexing is now extended to the iSIS 8000® system solution. With the introduction of IP-based connectivity between the MX8400 multiplexer and the new encoder range, the Reflex technology has been extended to support encoders located at remote locations over a Wide Area Network to offer additional benefits of further improved picture quality, higher efficiency and reduced capital expenditure.

Benefits

- Enabling the addition of up to 30 percent more channels without increasing bandwidth or sacrificing image quality, Reflex system saves money and frees up capacity for new revenue generating services

- Reflex is a field proven deployed statistical multiplexing solution already in use with thousands of channels worldwide; Reflex offers the capability for more channels and better image quality with no increase in bandwidth

Reflex technology combined with the iSIS 8000® solution enables encoders located over a Wide Area Network to be grouped as part of a Reflex Statistical Multiplex. With remote encoding the contributing feeds do not require a decode/recode process, retaining the original picture quality
